The world is a beautiful place....or is it ? - Millennial Couple Bikes Near ISIS Territory to Prove ‘Humans Are Kind’ and Gets Killed

An idealistic young American couple was killed in an Islamic State-claimed terrorist attack last month while on a cycling trip around the world. 


Jay Austin and Lauren Geoghegan, both 29, last year quit their office jobs in Washington, DC, to embark on the journey.
The couple documented their year-long journey on ​Instagram and on a ​joint blog. “You read the papers and you’re led to believe that the world is a big, scary place," Austin wrote. “I don’t buy it," he continued.

However, Austin and Geoghegan's dream trip came to a tragic and gruesome end when they got to Tajikistan, a ​weak state with a known terrorist threat that shares a border with Afghanistan, where ISIS and other terrorist groups are ​highly active. They were riding their bikes through the country on July 29 when a car rammed them. Five men got out of the car and stabbed the couple to death along with two other cyclists, one from Switzerland and the other from the Netherlands. 

Two days later, ISIS released a video showing the same men sitting in front of the group's black flag. 

Being positive and thinking that the world is a good place is one thing. But being so naive about it and believing that no one can be bad or have different views is a totally different thing. 

Net net: Go roam the world on your own. But with your head (with the brains) on your shoulders.

Baga Beach in the night was a treat for the eyes. I had come to the same place 9 years ago and it definitely has made a lot of improvement. The shacks are better and have expanded their area and influence onto the sands. Every shack has around 25 to 30 candle lit tables out on the sand with these low lying chairs overlooking the water and LED lights the same colour of their shacks so you know which place you’re eating at. I wanted to see Goa nightlife and I got it. The only problem was the music. It was way too loud. Every shack had a dance floor with each DJ trying to show the other guy that his set was better and speakers louder. So by the end of just 15 mins you wouldn’t really know what song you were listening to. So go eat a shack if you want to just eat and dance (and not talk, it’s useless; you wouldn’t be able to hear anything) otherwise walk on Tito’s lane for the normal restaurants. Tito’s lane is the life of Baga after the beach. That’s where all the clubs are.
