Save the Date - 31st Jan - Super Blood Blue Moon

Image
A cosmic event not seen in 36 years -- a rare "super blood blue moon" -- may be glimpsed January 31 in parts of western North America, Asia, the Middle East, Russia and Australia. The event is causing a buzz because it combines three unusual lunar events -- an extra big super moon, a blue moon and a total lunar eclipse. "It's an astronomical trifecta" Those in the Middle East, Asia, eastern Russia, Australia and New Zealand should look for this phenomenon in the evening , as the moon rises. The last time a supermoon, blue moon and total lunar eclipse all together were visible from the eastern United States was on May 31, 1844. https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/total-lunar-eclipse-2018-rare-super-blood-blue-moon-visible-on-january-31-1805403

5 Reasons Why Dating A Girl Who Loves To Read Is A Good Idea.....For Better Or For Verse Imagine being a girl who loves reading books (literally places them on the #1 position in her life) and waking up to this! Forget the dating part, but finding girls who read books (not study books; that everyone has to read- whether you like it or not) is a great catch in itself.  SOURCE : BOMBAY TIMES (15TH JAN 2018) Here are some excerpts from the article which I liked best: "......a girl who reads can be the most hopeful human you'd ever interact with. She plays with her imagination well and doesn't (usually) squander her thoughts away on reckless things in life."

Facebook's startling new ambition is to shrink

Image
Over the next year, we’ll start spending less time on Facebook. Those of us who used it to catch up on the news will find less of it to read. We’ll watch fewer videos, and we’ll see fewer advertisements.  Facebook announced a plan to   emphasize more “meaningful” interactions on the platform .  Facebook’s researchers have found that when people are actively commenting on posts, they  tend to feel better about using social networks   — and feel better about themselves in general.

The #Padmavati (now "Padmavat") Controversy Timeline

Image
25th January 2018 is a date which will be etched in the memory of the entire Indian population (well most of them, if not all) as the day when #Padmavati (now "officially" Padmavat) releases (hopefully!). This film has been given more weightage ( footage or bhaav if we talk in teenager language) than any social issue faced in Mumbai. The outrage and debates that the movie has sparked months before it's release is enormous. And to think the trailer had only one dialogue. No wonder they say a "picture" speaks a 1000 words . Literally. I'm not sure how many of these facts are actually true (as we don't know the other part of the story) even though they are from Wikipedia. What we do know is that only AFTER we see the movie (with or without the X number of cuts) will we be able to come to the conclusion of whether or the not the  attacks and media hype were necessary (or genuine in the first place) or if they were only a marketing gimmick (and we...

Words of Wisdom

Some plus points of reading your college textbooks before actually studying them! No wonder parents and teachers tell you to start studying a month in advance. Kudos to education!  Free and good quality Words of Wisdom! "Virtue is Knowledge. He who knows must Act accordingly; No one voluntarily follow Evil Vice can only be because of Ignorance; Only by Self-knowledge can Freedom be acquired Learn your passions within your own soul and control them to reach wisdom"                                                                                                                      -- Socrates

AADHAR Authorities should be arrested, not journalist who reported breach: Edward Snowden

Image
American whistleblower  Edward Snowden  delivered a firm reproof to the Indian government on Tuesday for "destroying the privacy" of its citizens and spoke out in support of the reporter who broke the  Aadhaar data breach +  story. The UIDAI, a statutory body that oversees the world's largest biometric identity card scheme, was left red-faced following a report in The Tribune  that claimed an "agent" on Whatsapp could provide unrestricted access to any Aadaar number for a paltry sum of Rs 500.

Why we should have a Cadbury Committee Report in our everyday life.....

Image
The Cadbury Committee Report was introduced by Sir Adrian Cadbury (and it does not have anything to do with chocolates - my apologies in case I broke your heart *wink*) and a few other people with a view to overcome huge problems of scams and failures occuring in the corporate sector in 1991.This had to be done because 4 major companies' stocks crashed at the stock markets and no one saw it coming.

I attended a Book Fair at Sunderbai Hall today and....

Image
....I bought 8 books *hehehe*. Not that I'm very happy with the number of books I bought this year, considering that I purchased a lot more the first time I went there. I actually expected to buy a lot more. I even made plans to travel from Churchgate all the way home by Ola in case I couldn't carry the load back home. Now a book fair is a real super saver for bookworms like me since they normally price it at Rs.100 and Rs.300 a kg for premium books (all your famous bestselling authors and series). If you go on Amazon.in each book will cost you around Rs.200 to Rs.400. The bookstores likes Crossword are way more expensive (they put their own price tags I guess).

I opened a Quora account & I'm so happy I did

Image
I love writing, spreading gyaan to people younger than me (I take after my father in that aspect) and answering questions (some of them really make you think). Few days ago I opened my Quora a ccount for the very first time. I had heard about the site before but had never taken any real interest in it (considering that I was quite busy the entire year organizing college events).
